Acura Blind Spot Information System

Blind Spot Information System

The Blind Spot Information System is a technology that was one of the first driver assistance features offered to consumers. Almost all manufacturers have adopted its use as it protects the driver and their occupants from a collision caused by the infamous blind spot impact. In essence, the system utilizes sensors at the rear of the vehicle to monitor if another vehicle is in its blind spot. If the driver decides to change lanes, a light will illuminate to notify them.

At West Side Acura we have a large selection of new Acura's that are equipped with AcuraWatch. AcuraWatch is a suite of driver assistance technologies that help the driver in their daily commute. Blind Spot Information System is one of them and works with other technologies to keep you safe. Let's find out more about how Blind Spot Information System works to help you avoid a collision.

How it Works

  • Your Acura must be travelling above 35 km/h for the system to operate
  • As an Acura safety feature, Blind Spot Information System uses radar sensors embedded at the rear bumper to detect a vehicle that is approaching.
  • The Blind Spot Information System has a range of approximately 10 feet from the rear of the vehicle. At Acura, the detection area is quite long and helps drivers more.
  • There is no need to turn the system ON. As soon as the vehicle is started, it is on by default.
  • Once a vehicle is detected to your right or left, a flashing light will appear either on that particular side view mirror or on the A-pillar; this is dependent on the model.
  • If you activate your turn signal to switch lanes and a vehicle is in your blind spot, the system will beep, letting you know to hold off.

Tips

  • This system will not work in reverse.
  • The system may not be able to detect motorcycles or small cars.
  • It is important to make sure the rear bumper is always clear of debris, ice, dirt, and stickers.
  • Like all other driver assistance technologies, it is important to note that you are in charge of the vehicle when behind the wheel. Make sure to always look over your shoulder before switching lanes. Safety is a top priority.
  • If you have any questions regarding Blind Spot Information System please don't hesitate to contact us and one of our product specialists will be happy to help.
