What Is Acura SH-AWD?
Acura Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive, abbreviated as Acura SH-AWD, is an automatic, full-time all-wheel drive system on various Acura models. The first-generation SH-AWD system entered the market in the 2005 Acura RL. Since then, it has experienced multiple changes and updates over the years to enhance performance. The system is currently in its fourth generation.
How Does Acura SH-AWD Work?
Acura SH-AWD is a proactive system offering impressive dry-road handling by matching your engine power with various inputs. These include traction, driver effort, weight distribution, and more. When driving in a straight line, the system distributes 90% of engine power to the vehicle's front wheel to enhance fuel efficiency. When you accelerate, the system sends 45% of the power to the rear wheels for additional traction and proper weight distribution. On the other hand, Acura SH-AWD transfers 70% of engine power to the rear wheels for stability when driving around corners. The power can also move to the outside rear wheel to facilitate cornering.
